The Writer Experience
Sun Valley is an outdoor-lover’s paradise. The Rocky Mountains tower over alpine lakes bordered by purple and yellow wild flowers. This is dream country for fishermen, bird watchers, and hikers. A canoe glides slowly over Pettit Lake just an hour north of Sun Valley, but the more daring indulge in white water rafting in nearby Stanley. Staying closer to home you can play golf on one of Sun Valley’s championship courses, try out the local bike paths, or be whisked up to the top of gorgeous Mt. Baldy in a comfortable gondola. You might even think about hiking back down.
Guest writers are sent out on activities the day before the conference gets underway. Attendees often arrive in Sun Valley early or stay late and indulge their passion for expert fly fishing, back country exploring, horse back riding, swimming and just about any sport you can imagine. It’s not only writers who fall head over heels in love with Sun Valley, so do their children. And why not? The SVWC kids’ club (for the children of the guest writers) is the greatest thing since ice cream. In fact, it includes more than one scoop of ice cream, along with ice skating, tennis, hay rides, biking, swimming, and hiking. There’s plenty of dress-up time as well. Not pictured here are the wonderful babysitters SVWC arranges for the youngest of these special visitors.
The Sun Valley Resort offers a wonderful day camp for all youngsters staying at the resort. Information is available at the SVWC registration desk.
