
Carl Hiaasen
CARL HIAASEN was born and raised in Florida and has published sixteen well-received novels, including Strip Tease, Sick Puppy, and Bad Monkey. His recent novel, Fever Beach, was released in May 2025. Hiaasen has also authored nonfiction books and popular novels for young readers, such as Hoot, which earned a Newbery Honor and was adapted into a feature film. Other film adaptations of his works include Strip Tease, starring Demi Moore, and the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey, featuring Vince Vaughn. He wrote a regular column for the Miami Herald from 1985 to 2021, addressing local and national issues, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Trayvon Martin case, Bernie Madoff’s trial, and Florida’s presidential election challenges. Hiaasen’s journalism has earned him numerous honors for his incisive journalism and commentary, including three Pulitzer Prize nominations, the Damon Runyon Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
