2025 SVWC Alumni News & Book Releases
Eventos gratuitos y programación comunitaria
It is one of SVWC’s foremost goals to make the Conference and its content as accessible as possible, especially to students, teachers, and our local community. We have opened our doors each year, both virtually and in-person, with free Pavilion lawn talks, free livestreaming, free talks at The Community Library, as well as free online audio and video recordings (including our very own podcast) in our digital media library. This year, we are also offering Special Series Pavilion Passes and a Live Watch Party in downtown Ketchum. We invite you to join in and get inspired. For all the ways you can get involved for free, visit svwc.com/free.

Did you know only one-third of SVWC funding comes from pass sales each year? We rely on donations for the other two-thirds of our operating budget and outreach program costs. Which means, we couldn`t do it without you! You can help support literary arts and education in the Wood River Valley and beyond by donating today.
A bit about us... At #SVWC, we aim to educate, inspire, and fuel a love of literature and learning among students, teachers, and the entire Wood River Valley. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to fund multiple school and community programs, collaborating year-round with the area’s libraries and nonprofit organizations, and expanding access to free content both in-person and online.
Because of these community outreach programs, a student reaches for a book and falls in love with reading and a child who dreams of being an author now knows it’s possible. We believe in supporting educators and the underserved, inspiring the next generation of readers and burgeoning writers, and weaving a love of literature into the fabric of our community and beyond. Thank you to all who help make this possible!

One of America’s preeminent neurosurgeons and the author of Gray Matters: A Biography of Brain Surgery, Dr. Theodore H. Schwartz (@tedschwartz13), has spent his career investigating some of the most complex and perplexing questions about the three-and-a-half pounds of tissue that determines the very nature of ourselves and our lives. Perhaps no question in neuroscience—or, for that matter, in philosophy and psychology—is more mysterious than that of identity, how it is that we know and feel ourselves to be who we are. Perhaps the only thing that can be said for certain is that whatever identity is or isn’t, it originates, somehow, in the brain. In conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and novelist Ayad Akhtar, Dr. Schwartz shines a light for us into the darkness. “Sun Valley really rejuvenated us in so many ways, tangible and otherwise. And personally, as a writer, it felt miraculous and life-affirming.”
