YAEL VAN DER WOUDEN is a writer and teacher based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her debut novel, The Safekeep, won the 2025 Goldberg Prize for Debut Fiction and the 2025 Women’s Prize for Fiction. It was a finalist for the 2024 Booker Prize and 2025 Aspen Words Literary Prize. The Safekeep is shortlisted for the Walter Scott Prize, and the Dylan Thomas Prize and has been sold in 22 languages.

Yael van der Wouden is a 2025 Sun Valley Writers’ Conference New Voices Fellow.
