Mon 1st Breakout #3: PROMISE

By:

The artistic gifts of celebrated poet and visual artist RACHEL ELIZA GRIFFITHS are deeply apparent in her evocative and beautiful debut novel Promise. The book tells the story of two young Black sisters growing up loved and happy in 1950s Maine. But when the Civil Rights Movement sweeps the nation and their small town turns against them, they must fight for their homes, their bodies, and their dreams. In a conversation with MARTHA WILLIAMS of The Community Library in Ketchum, Griffiths will talk about her fears and excitement at moving into fiction and how she was able to blend big national themes with the tender details of intimate lives.
