The small mountain town of Ketchum and the adjacent resort of Sun Valley are nestled high in the white-capped mountains of southern Idaho. Today a world-famous destination, this four-season playground is a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts, nature lovers, and culture lovers alike.
About the Area
Oftentimes, “Sun Valley” is the term blanketed over the entire Wood River Valley (comprised of Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue). Within the small town of Sun Valley, the historic Sun Valley Resort was founded in the 1930s, made famous by Hollywood elite like Marilyn Monroe. Today, it is comprised of a quaint village filled with lodging, restaurants, upscale shops, a movie theater, state-of-the-art spa, and a stunning and scenic outdoor Pavilion—the venue for the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference. The resort also includes two ski mountains, three golf courses, a year-round outdoor ice rink, mountaintop dining, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more.
Just under two miles away, and easily accessible by bike or bus, is the town of Ketchum. Overflowing with local flavor, this small ski town hasn’t lost its Western roots—explore a vibrant nightlife, gourmet dining, and an impressive art scene with free evening gallery walks.
Just beyond the borders of Ketchum and Sun Valley lie almost a million acres of pristine wilderness, with world-class mountain biking, fishing, whitewater rafting, camping, and hiking all within a short drive. We have compiled information below about the plethora of activities that are available.
