2023: Invisible Child

Dasani. Do you remember that name? She became the poster child for how poverty, race, and the moral failings of our institutions impact the most marginal among us, in particular, one poor Black child in New York. She first came to our attention in the pages of The New York Times due to investigative reporter ANDREA ELLIOTT’s extraordinary, detailed, and dogged efforts. Dasani’s story became the basis of Elliott’s 2022 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Invisible Child, as eye-opening as it is heartbreaking. In conversation with another Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and playwright, AYAD AKHTAR, Elliott will tell us about Dasani’s life and how it is both singular and emblematic, and talk about her own passions for the deeply immersive journalism that is the hallmark of her professional life.
