Joanna Breyer

DR. JOANNA BREYER was a pediatric psychologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Boston and a supervisor at Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge between 1984 and 2012. At DFCI, Breyer provided treatment for pediatric patients and their families. She also worked in the Pediatric Cancer Survivor Clinic for ten years and was on the DFCI Ethics Committee for three years. As a founding member of the Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT), Breyer worked to improve the quality of end-of-life care for pediatric patients. She has supervised and taught in year-long seminars on health psychology and continues to present at local and national conferences and workshops on psychosocial issues relating to pediatric oncology. Breyer serves on the Board of Advisors of the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) and of The Guidance Center in Cambridge. She has co-authored chapters on bereavement and communication in comprehensive handbooks on pediatric oncology, and her book for parents of children with cancer and other serious conditions, WHEN YOUR CHILD IS SICK, will be published in June 2018.
