SAT Second Breakouts – Session #2: A STANFORD UNDERGRAD TAKES DOWN A UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT
By: Carrie Lightner
In his debut book, How to Rule the World: An Education in Power at Stanford University, recent Stanford graduate THEO BAKER not only tells a dynamite and darkly funny story about the university’s problematic culture but also reminds us of what first-rate investigative journalism looks like. A tip he received as a freshman journalist led him to unearth a scandal that resulted in the resignation of Stanford president Marc Tessier-Lavigne, a superstar neuroscientist and wealthy biotech executive, who was accused of research misconduct. In conversation with VINSON CUNNINGHAM, critic and staff writer at The New Yorker, Baker will talk about how he got the story and his commitment to uncovering the truth.
