Sun AM Breakout #3: FIRST GEN: ONE LATINA’S REMARKABLE JOURNEY
By: Carrie Lightner
In her brave and buoyant memoir, ALEJANDRA CAMPOVERDI writes about the emotional and literal hurdles she encountered as a first gen Latina breaking a number of generational cycles. Her life has been full of amazing contradictions. Raised on welfare by an immigrant single mother in Los Angeles, Campoverdi has been a White House aide to President Obama and a gang member’s girlfriend. She’s ridden in stolen cars and on Air Force One and is now a nationally recognized women’s health advocate. Campoverdi will talk about her life and the unique challenges faced by “First and Onlys” and share her advice for those following in her footsteps.
