Sat 1st Breakout #3: A POETRY READING
By: Carrie Lightner
Today, we are gifted with a reading by two luminous poets, RACHEL ELIZA GRIFFITHS and SAFIYA SINCLAIR, two women who happen to be great friends and are appearing together in what promises to be a memorable event. Griffiths is the author of five collections of poetry, including her most recent, Seeing the Body, poems both wrenching and beautiful, many about the life and death of her mother. The poems in Sinclair’s Cannibal explore Jamaican childhood, race relations in America, history and exile in language that feels both utterly precise and wildly original. Think of this reading as a poetry concert performed by two exquisite lyricists.
