Sat 1st Breakout #2: THE ART OF MEMOIR: AN ALL-STAR LINEUP
By: Carrie Lightner
Writing one’s own life story well and artfully is a hard business. You must navigate the uncertain shoals of memory and the scar tissue of the past, and in doing so you may well emerge with entirely new scars for your labor. You must consider deeply but not flinch in the face of discoveries, old and new. You must take the honest measure of yourself and others. SLOANE CROSLEY (Grief Is for People), ANDRE DUBUS III (Townie), and GRIFFIN DUNNE (The Friday Afternoon Club) have all written brilliant memoirs and come out the other side. In conversation with SVWC Literary Director JOHN BURNHAM SCHWARTZ, they will unpack their respective literary journeys, mapping for us some of the greatest obstacles confronted and deepest joys experienced along the way.
