What an exhilarating, if sometimes overwhelming time to be a human as we watch technological advances change our lives on an almost daily basis. Those changes are bringing awesome innovations, but they are also leading to decisive disparities as some of the tech titans become stratospherically rich, giving them leverage over our lives and politics. We have asked two authors, SEBASTIAN MALLABY and THEO BAKER, to reflect on this high-stakes reality. In Mallaby’s latest book, The Infinity Machine: Demis Hassabis, DeepMind, and the Quest for Superintelligence, he has written extensively about economics and the AI arms race, while Baker’s new book, How to Rule the World: An Education in Power at Stanford University, focuses on the symbiosis between Silicon Valley and the school.
