MON Second Breakouts – Session #5: LETTERS TO MY SISTER

By:

Where do we seek solace and where do we find it? That question haunts BARBARA WANSBROUGH’s beautiful new book, Wild Things, a lyrical meditation on the loss of her beloved sister who died of cancer at age 59. Wansbrough took her wounded heart into the hills on daily hikes through Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Structured as 59 letters, one for each year of her sister’s life, she interweaves memories of her sister and their shared chaotic childhood with vivid details of the natural world she encounters on her walks. The memoir is a mystical blend of beauty and grief, life and death. She will talk with her husband, well-known interviewer PAUL HOLDENGRÄBER, about the origins of the book and its original form, and how she found solace in those long walks.
