SVWC 2020 Cancellation
By: SVWC
April 3, 2020 ~ We are heartbroken to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Sun Valley Writers’ Conference, originally scheduled to be held at the Sun Valley Resort and Pavilion, Saturday, July 18 to Tuesday, July 21, 2020, due to the wrenching uncertainties surrounding the spread of COVID-19.
The current situation makes it impossible for us to safely confirm the travel, logistics, and participation of all those who were so looking forward to coming to the Conference this summer—our superb group of writers, donors, attendees, staff, and volunteers. We have agonized over whether to delay or cancel. But it appears that the arc of full recovery will reach beyond our ability to effectively plan for July.
It is hard to imagine that anything can replace the joy that we share together during our magical four days in Sun Valley. Thankfully, we still retain the wise, surprising, and inspirational voices of our writers. So we will now adapt and pivot to bring those voices to an even wider digital audience, in an array of imaginative ways, during the coming weeks and months.
“We are so saddened by the prospect of missing our time together this summer. First and foremost, our hearts go out to everyone in Blaine County whose lives have been upended in the face of this devastating crisis. Literature and the arts are absolutely central to the Sun Valley area and provide critical nourishment for all of us, especially during times like these,” says SVWC Executive Director Robin Eidsmo. “We are sorry to have to make this difficult decision and we know it will have an impact on our community near and far. But without a doubt, the Conference has a long life, both behind us and ahead of us, and we will be back in full flower in beautiful Sun Valley next summer, July 17-20.”
