2026 Narrative 4 Workshop
By: SVWC
As part of its ongoing community outreach efforts, the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference (SVWC) brought the global nonprofit Narrative 4 to the Wood River Valley on April 25, 2026. Founded by SVWC alum Colum McCann, Narrative 4 uses the power of storytelling to foster empathy, understanding, and meaningful connection within communities.
Their guided workshops use a methodology called “Story Exchange”—sharing personal stories, listening with intention, and retelling one another’s experiences. By inviting people from differing—even opposing—perspectives to step into each other’s narratives, the process helps bridge divides and foster deeper understanding.
As Emily Kubin and colleagues at the University of Oxford write, “At a time when polarization is rising, Narrative 4 programming shows promise as a tool to decrease division in classrooms and communities.”
The SVWC-sponsored workshop took place Saturday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MST at The Community Library in Ketchum. The day began with a guided Story Exchange in the morning, followed by lunch and a facilitator training session in the afternoon.
The workshop was open to all members of the community and was especially suited for educators and student leaders interested in bringing this storytelling framework into their classrooms or organizations.
By offering this program, SVWC hopes to strengthen relationships, encourage collaboration and community-building, and create a space for thoughtful, positive dialogue throughout the Wood River Valley.
