SVWC Expands School Outreach in Blaine County
As a nonprofit organization, we rely on donations from our generous family of donors to make this annual event possible. But donations to SVWC go beyond the conference itself. We are involved in many school and community programs, collaborating year-round with the area’s libraries and nonprofit organizations, as we work to expand access to free content both in-person and online.
In 2024, thanks to one donor in particular, we were able to expand and revive many of these programs for our community—specifically within Blaine County schools.
This expanded outreach includes a new scholarship program for local students and teachers, support for our annual Student/Author Luncheon, and the refinement of our School Speaker Series. In May, we partnered with The Community Library to bring author Javier Zamora back to Sun Valley to speak (in Spanish) to Hispanic students and families. And in July, Alejandra Campoverdi joined our Student/Author Luncheon to discuss her memoir, First Gen, with local high schoolers.

“Thanks to generous support from our donors, we have been able to increase the scope and reach of our community engagement efforts, especially in the Blaine County schools for students and teachers,” shares Carrie Lightner, SVWC’s Associate Director of Operations. “Having all of these initiatives under one umbrella allows those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend our event in July to take advantage of and find themselves enriched by the content and opportunities that SVWC provides in a deep and meaningful way.”
