JESSICA YU is an award-winning filmmaker and writer. Her documentaries include LAST CALL AT THE OASIS, a bracing look at the water crisis; MISCONCEPTION, an exploration of population issues; YOU WHO LOOK, a short portrait of the artist James Turrell; FOREVERYONE.NET about World Wide Web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee; and THE GUIDE, winner of several audience awards. Yu won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short for BREATHING LESSONS: THE LIFE AND WORK OF MARK O’BRIEN. Her other films include THE PROTAGONIST and IN THE REALMS OF THE UNREAL, for which she was nominated for a Writers Guild of America award. Yu’s credits as a television director include American Crime, Lady Dynamite, Parenthood, Grey’s Anatomy, 13 Reasons Why, and The West Wing, as well as Maria Bamford’s one-hour Netflix comedy special, Old Baby. Yu has written for the Los Angeles Times Magazine and Pacific News Service. Her first book, GARDEN OF THE LOST AND ABANDONED, about stranded children in Uganda and a woman who rescues them, was published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in November 2017.
