Sun 2nd Breakout #6: HOW TO SAY BABYLON

By:

The best memoirs transport you fully into the head and heart of the writer and their experiences. So it is with How to Say Babylon, the lyrical and searing memoir by poet SAFIYA SINCLAIR. Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, the book recounts her Jamaican childhood and her efforts to escape the patriarchal control of her Rastafarian father who forbade make-up, jewelry, opinions, friends, and any sign of deemed immodesty. In conversation with The New Yorker staff writer ALEXANDRA SCHWARTZ, Sinclair will talk about the book and about how she found her power to resist and her own unique and beautiful voice.
